This video captures a moment I will never forget: Louisiana HCR 60 moving through the Legislature and receiving unanimous support.

Introduced by Representative Adrian Fisher during the 2025 Regular Session, HCR 60 memorialized the United States Congress to take action to create penalties for the improper packaging and labeling of cremated human remains. The Louisiana House adopted the resolution 92–0, followed by a 39–0 concurrence in the Senate.

For me, this was never simply about watching a resolution pass.

It was proof that when families speak up about something that should have been handled differently, their experiences can become part of a much larger conversation. Pain can identify gaps. Advocacy can demand change. And sometimes, change begins with getting people in positions of power to recognize that a standard should exist in the first place.

Crystal is the reason I found my voice in this work. But the purpose has grown far beyond Crystal.

No family should have to experience something going wrong before someone asks why there wasn't a better standard already in place.

This is what Demand the Standard means to me: not simply telling Crystal's story, but using what we have learned to push for better practices, greater accountability, and protections for the families who come after us.

HCR 60 was one step. But it was a step forward.
