Jana's Voice in the halls of Congress
In May 2024, my husband Scott and I traveled to Washington, D.C. for a purpose much greater than ourselves. We went to advocate for my best friend and sister, Crystal McCrory Jones, whose death forever changed our lives.
This journey represented more than one family's search for answers. It represented the countless families across the country who have been left with unanswered questions, incomplete investigations, and a desire for transparency and accountability.
As we stepped off that plane, I knew I wasn't walking into Washington just as Crystal's sister. I was walking in carrying the responsibility to use my voice for those who may never have the opportunity to use theirs.
Every meeting, every conversation, and every step through our nation's capital strengthened the mission that would eventually become Demand the Standard—an advocacy platform dedicated to educating families, promoting accountability, and encouraging thorough, evidence-based death investigations.
This video captures the beginning of that journey—a reminder that meaningful change often starts with one family refusing to give up, one voice choosing to speak, and one trip taken with love, hope, and determination.
Love made me her sister. Loss made me her voice.
