True Crime News traveled to Louisiana to take a closer look at the February 9, 2023 death of Crystal McCrory Jones and the investigation that followed.

Crystal was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and friend whose death was ruled a suicide. But in the years since, her family has continued to raise concerns about whether the investigation was thorough enough to confidently support that conclusion.

In this national report, True Crime News examines many of those concerns—including evidence the family says was missed at the scene, individuals who were never interviewed, errors and inconsistencies within investigative records, and questions that remain unanswered years later.

Crystal’s loved ones also share something equally important: who Crystal was before she became the subject of a death investigation.

Our family has never claimed to know exactly what happened inside Crystal’s home that day. We have never asked anyone to simply replace one conclusion with another. What we have asked for is an independent, comprehensive review of the evidence and the investigation used to reach the original determination.

There is an important difference between saying, “We know what happened,” and asking, “Did investigators do enough to know what happened?”

That question is at the heart of this True Crime News report—and at the heart of our continued advocacy.

Crystal deserved a thorough investigation. Her family deserves answers. And regardless of the ultimate conclusion, the standard should never depend on whose name is on the case file.
